My first visit to Michigan’s wine country changed the way I viewed wine outside of California. The stunning landscape along the Leelanau and Old Mission Peninsulas far exceeded my expectations offering sweeping views of vineyards that seem to roll straight into Grand Traverse Bay. Having grown up less than an hour from Napa Valley, I couldn’t image another wine region measuring up, yet the unique microclimate of Northern Michigan produces deliciously balanced wines that dare I say, stand up to many of Napa’s finest. Homestretch is a nod to my dear friends in Michigan who opened my eyes to a new world of wine and showed me that California isn’t the only place one can live among the vines.
TASTING NOTES
A medley of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Viognier make up this delightful white wine blend. The first pour fills the glass with a fragrant and complex bouquet of fruit cocktail filled with peaches, pears, pineapples and honey. It’s zippy acidity and clean finish remind me of springtime in Grand Traverse Bay!
